Broadway Review: The Lion King
On Saturday, October 29th, I was able to journey back into my childhood, as I saw the landmark Broadway musical, The Lion King, in New York City. People of all ages filled the theatre and everyone was able to enjoy the adaptation of the Academy Award-winning Disney film. The best part about the musical was that it stayed true to the original film that everyone fell in love with in 1994. The director, Julie Taymor, was able to bring The Lion King to life with the help of an extremely talented cast.
It was evident that the cast worked endlessly in order to bring the magical show together. Every detail was accounted for, leaving everyone in awe. I was very impressed by the two child actors that played Simba and Nala. Although the children weren’t more than 10 years old, they put on a flawless performance. Also, the costumes and backdrops were vibrant and otherworldly. One would think that the animal costumes would seem fake or childish, but they added a special, realistic effect to the show. In fact, the thespians who were dressed as animals didn’t limit themselves to the stage, as they walked through the audience. The music, dancing, costumes, and interactive actors made one feel as if they were a part of Simba’s struggle. I would recommend this Broadway musical to anyone who loved the original film.
