Horror movie enthusiasts everywhere are nearly at the end of their almost two-decade wait for the newest movie in the “28 Days Later” franchise; “28 Years later” as it will be releasing on June 20, 2025.
The newest movie in this soon-to-be trilogy follows the plot of the previous two movies “28 Days Later” and “28 weeks later” that were released in 2002 and 2007. The original films’ take on a zombie apocalypse, human behavior under such conditions, and social collapse established a foundation for future movies in this genre to build upon. The involvement of the original director, Danny Boyle, suggests the return of the realistic and chilling atmosphere of the first two movies that fans seemed to love.
With larger budgets, fanbases, and expectations, Danny Boyle expressed his confidence regarding the success of the upcoming movie in an interview in 2019 with NME Magazine, “… I have a wonderful idea for the third part. It’s properly good. The original film led to a bit of a resurgence in zombie dramas, and it doesn’t reference any of that. It doesn’t feel stale at all” (Boyle). Given the time it has taken so far for the release of the third movie and the rise in popularity, it can be assumed that the movie will be a hit in theaters when it releases in the summer.
With that, the wait for the third movie continues as more information is still being released.
