The United Kingdom’s biggest night happened, honoring the art of filmmaking and television. BAFTA stands for The British Academy of Film and Television Arts. The BAFTA Awards are meant to recognize Actors and film crew for their outstanding work on the arts they produced. David Tennant, a Scottish actor, was the host for the night. He started the night with a performance of The Proclaimers’ hit “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles),” getting the audience, including James McAvoy, Anna Kendrick, and Colman Domingo, to join in. Throughout the night, he made jokes dealing with past movies and TV hits. At one point in the night, Tennant also mentioned that “A Complete Unknown was compared to “Mamma Mia! for middle-aged dads”.
A big winner from the night was Conclave with 11 nominations and 5 wins. The Brutalist was another movie that did great with 6 wins. Mikey Madison, an actress that has been gaining fame for her role in Anora, won leading actress. In her acceptance speech, she thanked her mom for taking her to all her auditions. Mikey also thanked and congratulated the film crew who worked extensively to help create the movie.
Overall, the BAFTA Awards was a great night to celebrate film and television as a whole. The film crews and actors did an amazing job of helping develop art as a whole. I can’t wait to see new thought-provoking films. Congratulations to all the winners! I also can not wait to see what new work all thespians and film crew engage in for the upcoming year.
