Captain Phillips is based on a true story where the first American cargo ship was hijacked by Somali Pirates in 2009. The pirates hijacked the ship, and took the commanding officer as a hostage when they decided to depart 145 miles off the Somali coast. This whole situation was on the news, online, and basically everywhere. The movie stars Tom Hanks as Captain Phillips, and Barkhad Abdi as the leader of the Somali Pirates. Was”Captain Phillips” a biopic done right by Hollywood?

The answer is absolutely! Captain Phillips was intense, powerfully acted, and it was a very realistic film that was fantastic. Tom Hanks gave a phenomenal performance; it is honestly one of the greatest performances I have ever seen him give. All of the actors did a superb job, regardless of how major or minor their role was. It had good writing, it was really well directed, and the last half hour kept me on the edge of my seat because it was so intense. I highly recommend that everyone sees Captain Phillips because it is a great movie that will not disappoint the viewer whatsoever.
