The 86th Annual Academy Awards premiered on March 2nd, 2014. As we all know, the Academy Awards is a ceremony that honors achievements in the film industry. This year, we had Ellen DeGeneres as the host, and we had two movies that were nominated for 10 Oscars (Gravity and American Hustle). It is pretty safe to say that we thought these two movies would have swept every category and win almost everything. As a result, we were half right.
The cinematic achievement 12 Years a Slave won 3 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actress. Gravity won the most Oscars that night, winning 7 Oscars including Best Director. Leonardo DiCaprio, who is praised by critics and movie lovers as one of the greatest actors of all time, didn’t win the Academy Award as expected for The Wolf of Wall Street. Frozen won two Oscars including Best Animation and Best Original Song. Unfortunately, American Hustle did not take one single Oscar home. The overall winners were expected for the most part, and the Academy Awards this year turned out to be pretty great!
