Cyber-bullying is an increasing problem in today’s society. Cyber-bullying gives individuals the power to belittle and harass victims without actually facing them. Since there is no confrontation, far less courage is required. Cyber-bullies also have the presumption that because they are behind a screen, they won’t get caught. Therefore, social media sites like Twitter have become major outlets for cyber-bullying… until now.
Twitter has recently announced the release of their new update that allows users to report cyber-bullying quickly. The old way of reporting an abuser was extremely tedious. As a result, users would not bother reporting an incident of cyber-bullying. Blocking people has even become more efficient. Now, you can easily view your block list. On top of that, users that you have blocked can no longer view your profile. Twitter’s fight to end cyber-bullying isn’t stopping here. Several more user-friendly controls are being tested and should be installed within the New Year.
