Many of us have been required to read To Kill a Mockingbird at some point in our educational careers. This revolutionary novel by Harper Lee was published in the year of 1960, selling more than 40 million copies worldwide. The novel is based on the childhood of the author, Lee, herself, during the depression. To Kill a Mockingbird won the hearts of people of all cultures leading to a Pulitzer Prize in 1961.
Last summer, Harper Lee’s lawyer made a major discovery as she was going through some paperwork for Lee. She discovered a manuscript of a sequel to Lee’s primitively loved novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. The manuscript was titled Go Set a Watchman.
This newly discovered novel will also focus on Scout; the only difference being that it is set 20 years later. Scout returns from New York to discuss her thoughts and perspective about her childhood. Lee promised herself that she would never publish a book again, stating, “I wrote one good book, and that was enough.”
The novel is anticipated to be amazing although it has high expectations to live up to. The sequel will debut in July and it is all ready #1 on Amazon’s preorder list. I am looking forward to getting my hands on Go Set a Watchman this summer.
