An American in Paris: Broadway Review
An American in Paris is a romantic story that focuses on the lives of two young and diverse individuals trying to find their place in the world after WWII. The American soldier and the French girl find a way to be together despite barriers presented in the musical. The director and choreographer, Christopher Wheeldon, did an excellent job in ensuring that every aspect of the show ran smoothly. On top of that, the dancing was like nothing that I’ve ever seen before. The dancers’ moves were very precise and simply flawless.
The dancing and movements that were made on the stage went hand in hand with the music that was played by the live orchestra. Not only were the movements amazing, but the spirit and vigor of the play made me feel as if I were a part of the couple’s struggle. The entire cast demonstrated superior acting skills, as one could tell how they were feeling based on their body language and expressions.
Throughout the play, one couldn’t help but stare at the vibrant, yet elegant costumes. The classic and timeless ensembles were designed by Bob Crowley, who also designed the mesmerizing set that could be transformed within the blink of an eye. Overall, the entire show was beautifully done. From the singing to the dancing, everything was done whole-heartedly. If given the opportunity, I would definitely see the musical again and again!
