For a few years, North Arlington High School has partnered with the Bergen County Humane Society in Lyndhurst to donate pet supplies for those who cannot afford the supplies that their pets need. During these economic times, the need for pet supplies is increasing rapidly among those who are struggling financially. Kathy Johnson, the Executive Director of the Humane Society, has been working with the society for over 40 years and says that cat food, especially canned, has become the item that is most needed because of the amount of kittens that they are caring for. The Student Council at North Arlington High School held a donation drive for this organization throughout the holiday season and was able to donate many supplies that the Humane Society was very grateful for.
The Bergen County Humane Society serves many counties within New Jersey to “try to change our world – for the better” according to their website. The Bergen County Humane society is open to all the help that they can get. Many students from high schools and even colleges in New Jersey go to the Humane Society under a work-based program affiliated with their schools and they help by cleaning, feeding and caring for the animals. For more information, visit their website at http://www.humanesocietybergen.orgor take a ride down to their store at 221 Stuyvesant Avenue in Lyndhurst. The Humane Society of Bergen County does not receive any funding from the State, County, or Local Government, and therefore donations and the help of volunteers are their only means of support. They accept help from anyone over the age of twelve.
