On May 18th, students from North Arlington High School along with a total of 787 participants on 99 teams gathered at DeMuro Park in Nutley for the annual Relay for Life sponsored by the American Cancer Society. NAHS planned all year for this event and just as planned, it turned out to be a success. Many events took place to raise money for the American Cancer Society. A few fundraisers that took place throughout the year included: the Flapjack Breakfast at Applebee’s, the selling of “Vikings with Heart” t-shirts, and the selling of “sun” and “moon” cards. In total, the Vikings with Heart team raised over $10, 800 for the American Cancer Society. This event is very special to North Arlington because a former student, Christina Andrascik, is a representative of the event. Christina actually took a trip to North Arlington High School months prior to the event to inform students why they should relay and shared other information about the eve
North Arlington High School has been a part of this event for 8 consecutive years. Over the years, the number of participants from the school has increased drastically. Originally, members of the National Honor Society were the only students of NAHS that relayed at this event. Now, the event is opened to any and all students in the school. Mrs. Rosolen has been an active part of this event for the past eight years along with Mrs. Maresca. Mrs. Rosolen said that Relay for Life is always a “meaningful experience” and it is a “privilege to be a part of it.” Each person participates in Relay for Life for a reason. Mrs. Rosolen relays in memory of a dear friend and former teacher of North Arlington High School, Kathy Farrell, who lost her life at the young age of 42 due to cancer. Who will you relay for next year?
