On November 6th, 2012 Election Day came and passed. There were many positions on the line for President of the United States, the U.S. Senate, the U.S. House of Representatives, County Freeholders, Town Council, and the Board of Education members.
The biggest result known all around New Jersey and the rest of the country is the Presidential result. Incumbent President Barack Obama defeated Governor Mitt Romney, and will enter his second term in January 2013. President Obama had 332 electoral votes, while Romney had only 206. President Obama also won the popular vote with 51 percent versus Romney’s 48 percent.
As for the U.S. Senate result in New Jersey, Incumbent Robert Menendez defeated Joe Kyrillos. Menendez had approximately 1,800,000 votes, while Kyrillos had approximately 1,200,000. For the U.S. House of Representatives, Incumbent Bill Pascrell defeated Shmuley Boteach. Pascrell had approximately 147,000 votes, while Boteach had approximately 51,000.
The Bergen County Freeholder winners were Democrats Councilman Steve Tanelli of North Arlington, and Tracy Silna Zur of Franklin Lakes. Tanelli had 27 percent of the votes, and Zur had 22 percent. The Town Council winners were Democrats Albert Granell and Thomas Zammatore. They defeated the Republican Incumbents, Jon Kearney and Chris Johnson. Lastly, the Board of Education winner was George McDermott, who defeated Kelly Velez.
This was quite an interesting election. Many were anxious to find out results throughout the country. It was a Democratic win all around, with every position on the North Arlington General Election ballot being won by a Democrat. Thank you to all who voted in our town and for using our amendment to vote to its fullest because our country fought hard for that right.
