On October 9, 2012, 15 year old Malala Yousafzai was shot by the Taliban in an assassination attempt for speaking out for girls’ rights to an education in her country, Pakistan. She strongly believes that young girls should be given the equal opportunity to get an education. Fortunately, she survived this near fatal attack. The next day, the bullet was removed from her head. She was later flown to the United Kingdom for further care.

She will now continue her rehabilitation at her family’s temporary home in Birmingham and will visit the hospital occasionally for outpatient appointments.” Malala is recovering very well after the attack.
Malala was interviewed in the hospital after her surgery. She still believes that every girl should have the right to an education. Malala and her family started an organization called the Malala fund to support girls’ education around the world with donations. She is in nominated for the 2013 noble peace prize.
Malala’s story shows us just how lucky American girls and others around the globe are to have the opportunity to go to school everyday. Her story shows that we should be more grateful for the education system in this country. ABC news also noted that 32 million girls around the world are not in school. We are fortunate to be able to speak freely and have the right to attend school. Today, Malala is an inspiration to many children all over the world.
