SADD and Interact Club members came up with the idea of having a pasta dinner for senior citizens in the North Arlington High School cafeteria. It was supposed have been last week, however, due to the inclement weather, it was changed to Monday, March 11, 2013. Additionally, SADD and Interact Club members along with student council members and others from NAHS volunteered to help with preparing food, cooking pasta, serving, and having chats with our senior citizens at the table.
Students had active roles, such as, greeting people at the door, serving food, having friendly conversations, and cleaning. Without the efforts of teamwork between students and teachers, this event could have turned into a disaster. However, students knew what to do and were cognizant of their team and individual roles.
Moreover, students actually ate dinner with the senior citizens and the experience was extremely rewarding. Mr. Manuppelli, our principal, also had an opportunity to speak with our senior citizens as he went around each table. With great music, food, desserts, stunning services, and mutual respect, everyone enjoyed this volunteer work and Pasta Dinner with the senior citizens of North Arlington.
