Mentor Day turned out to be a really huge success! It took place on Wednesday, June 10th in the Media Center and the high school gymnasium. The entire freshman class was given the opportunity to participate in activities, games, and a project that required the collaboration and cooperation of all group members. Some of the activities conducted and supervised by the peer mentors included: charades, human knot, snakes, knee ball game, and back to back. As a peer mentor and participant, I can definitely confirm that the freshmen had a great time and genuinely enjoyed all of the activities.
After we were done with the games in the gym, we went to the media center and did a collage based on the serenity statement that we have followed all year. Each group worked enthusiastically and got the collages completed fairly quickly. Group members had to research images that symbolized the word (s) of the serenity statement and then create the posters.
At the end of the day, we went to the cafeteria and Mr. Manuppelli gave a speech to all 9th graders encouraging them to make their four years of high school count, and above all, to follow the serenity statement. Mentor Day ultimately turned out really well and it was an accomplishment that both the peer and teacher mentors should be proud of.
