On May 27, 2015, all freshmen students from North Arlington High School had an opportunity to participate in a field day at the Edwin “Rip” Collins Athletic Complex. Although field day was for the freshmen class, it was evident that everyone involved had an outstanding experience.
The day began with a tour of the complex. We saw the locker rooms, concession stand, and ended with a walk around the track. After the tour, the events began. First were the running events consisting of 1,000 meter races, 400 meter races and my favorite – the 100 meter backwards relay race. Yes, there were quite a few tumbles and many laughs. Then, students vied in softball and football throwing competitions. While all of these events were going on, students had other options.
Another event included a stand set up with Trivial Pursuit and Mr. Dembowski asked the impossible questions that the game had to offer. In addition, students also partook in hula hoops’ timed competitions as well as jump rope. An event that everyone took part in was the water balloon toss. All you needed was a friend and no fear of getting wet. The tug-of-war event was so exciting that even Dr. Yurchak took part in it. After all the morning events, it was time for lunch. The afternoon was filled with as much enthusiasm and thrills as the morning. Students had an obstacle course that certainly was challenging.
Soon after, it was almost time to leave and everyone gathered with their mentor groups. Mr. Marck ended the day with an amazing speech. In it, he thanked all those who made freshman field day possible, including teachers and upper classmen mentors. Finally, we all crowded into the middle of the field and posed for a picture. All in all, freshmen field day was an absolute success!
