Resolutions
Since January is now coming to an end, many of us are starting to wonder if our New Year’s resolutions have been given the proper attention. New Year’s resolutions are a great way to challenge yourself to be a better you. Unfortunately, many fail at achieving the goals that they set for themselves in the beginning of the year. According to Forbes magazine, “More than 40% of Americans—make New Year’s resolutions. But for all the good intentions, only a tiny fraction of us keep our resolutions; University of Scranton research suggests that just 8% of people achieve their New Year’s goals.”
Studies have shown that the key to achieving your New Year’s resolution is to keep it simple, as many of us are already loaded with responsibilities. It is also important that we are specific with our goals. For example, if you wish to get better grades, make a list of the small actions that you will take to get there.
I had the opportunity to ask friends and teachers about some of their New Year’s resolutions. Overall, everyone wanted to be healthier and happier. Many also wished to improve in what they love, such as soccer, photography, and even teaching! These goals can easily be met with hard work and dedication. As Booker T. Washington once said, “Nothing ever comes to one that is worth having, except as a result of hard work.”
