2016 Crew City Championships

This year’s North Arlington Crew Team attended the Philadelphia City Championships. Being one of the most important races, the crew team has been anticipating this race since the beginning of the season. The team left the boathouse in County Park at 3:45 AM on Sunday, May 1 to begin their trip to Schuylkill River in Pennsylvania.  Arriving at around 6 AM, the team was trying not to let the awful weather dishearten them. With a forecast of showers all day, everyone was still excited for their races.

The day began with the novice races. NAHS’s team has a Girls’ freshman boat and a Boys’ novice boat. Both races went very well, with the girls qualifying for finals, which were later on in the day. Next were the single and double races. The Vikings team raced two JV double boats and one JV single boat. Again, those races went extremely well with a double and the single boat qualifying for finals. The only boats left to race were the JV and Varsity Girls’ boats. The results left the varsity boat moving on to finals later.

The forecast proved true as it rained ceaselessly all day. Throughout the day, as they waited for their races and were watching others, the entire team tried to stay as dry as possible. Although none of the boats medaled, all boats raced their best. The bus ride back was full of happy, yet very tired and wet rowers. Even though, no medals were won, all of the boats raced the best race they could and had a great time.
