Adele’s Visit to The Big Apple
Without a doubt, only a star like Adele can sell out six shows at Madison Square Garden within minutes. Luckily, after waiting on my phone and anxiously refreshing the Ticketmaster screen, I was blessed with two tickets to her September 25th, 2016 show at MSG. Immediately, I accepted the tickets and was in utter shock that I managed to even get my hands on these coveted tickets. Remind you, this was back in December of 2015, so I definitely had a long haul in front of me before hearing Adele live. In the blink of an eye, though, I found myself sitting in seat number 14 in section 214 at MSG. How did time fly so fast? In the end, the only thought that mattered was that I was about to hear one of the greatest vocalists of the 21st century live.
As soon as Adele rose up from the stage and belted out the simple word, “Hello”, she held the audience captive in her eloquent stage presence. Her voice was extremely limpid, powerful, and downright astonishing. Especially during ballads such as, “When We Were Young”, “Set Fire to the Rain”, and “Someone Like You”, all the audience could do was marvel at her pitch perfect voice. In between songs, Adele was completely engaged with the audience, as she revealed the backstories of her songs, shared personal stories about her upbringing, and joked around with the crowd. By the final song of the night, which was the smash hit, “Rolling in the Deep”, Adele had all 18,000 fans on their feet, belting out the lyrics and singing just like her on stage.
Truly, this concert was an once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will treasure forever. After this current tour, Adele revealed she will be taking a prolonged break from music, as she wants to focus on her duty as a mother. In the near future, when she comes back to New York City, I will definitely be among the crowd!
