For almost two years Microsoft has been trying to purchase Activision-Blizzard (which makes games like Overwatch, Call of Duty, and World of Warcraft) for $69 Billion dollars. When this deal was announced the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) had some issues with the merger, so the FTC filed a lawsuit against Microsoft with the intention to block the deal from happening (which is still ongoing). Recently, on September 19th, some of the private court documents were unknowingly made public, which revealed unknown information about the roadmap for Xbox’s future games & consoles until 2028.
Most notable of the leaks present in the documents was a detailed picture of a new Xbox model that is a mid-generation refresh. This refresh is scheduled to be released next year. Code named Brooklyn, the new Xbox is planned to be an all digital console with no disk reader attached like the Xbox One S. The new console is expected to be getting 2 terabytes of base storage which is double what the current gen-model has. This new model will also reportedly stay at $499, which could mean that the current gen Xbox Series X gets $100 off base price in the near future.
A new improved version of the Xbox controller also is shown in the leaked documents. The controller code named Sebile, is expected to stay at $70 and features an array of new features never before seen on a first party Xbox controller. Most notable of the improvements shown in the leak is a change from battery powered controllers, to rechargeable controllers like what’s on Sony’s PS5. The new controller is expected to release in May of next year alongside the new console.
