During their annual live show, Mojang Studios announced a series of new features that will be added to Minecraft in the coming year. This year’s announcements were for the game’s upcoming 1.21 update that Mojang is aiming to release in the summer of 2024. Some of the new features announced include: A new block that allows players to automatically craft blocks and items with redstone, a new structure located underground which seems to be an upgraded version of the current dungeon, a new boss like mob called the Breeze that will spawn in said structure, and finally, the winner of this years mob vote.
The first new feature showcased in this year’s Minecraft live was the Trial Chambers structure. The Trial Chambers are a dungeon-like structure that will spawn deep underground. The structure is filled with treasure that the player can get, but will also be filled with traps and chambers that will test the player’s skill. One of the rooms that can be found in the structure will contain a new block called the Trial Spawner. Like the normal Mob Spawner, the Trial Spawner also spawns in one type of mob, but instead of infinitely spawning said mob into the game, The Trial Spawner has a cooldown after the player has slain all of the mobs.
Secondly, a new mob, The Breeze, was also revealed during the announcement of 1.21. The Breeze is a wind elemental mob that will exclusively spawn in the Trial Chambers. The Breeze can also shoot bursts of wind at the players to damage them, or can hit the surrounding area to activate traps inside the chambers.
The most impactful new feature that was shown off in this year’s Minecraft live was the Crafter. The Crafter is a new redstone block that will allow players to automatically craft blocks and items – many players have been hoping for something like this for years because of its ability to make mass automated farms for anything in the game.
FInally, at the end of the live event, Mojang revealed that the winner of the 2023 Minecraft Mob Vote was Armadillo. This year it was revealed that over 5 million players cast their votes, this is 1.5 million more votes than last year because for the first time, Chinese minecraft players were allowed to vote. This drastically changed the outcome that many players predicted – that the Crab would win by a steep majority.
