As technology advances, it is clear that it plays a bigger role in daily life. Recently, the development of AI technology has begun to influence many things, but how will it influence the arts? Subjects such as art, music, and other activities based on the human ability of creativity are not exempt from being affected by changing technology. There are positive and negative effects that this will have on the arts.
Some of the negative effects of AI art have already been felt by artists. For example, instead of hiring artists, many companies have opted to use AI to create the art they need; this not only saves the company money but also takes opportunities away from artists. In fact, 55% of artists have stated that they think AI art will negatively affect their ability to make an income from their art. Although there is nothing outwardly wrong with creating AI art instead of hiring artists, there are ethical concerns from the perspective of an artist; 74% of artists think that AI art is unethical.
There are multiple positive potential outcomes of AI generated art. For instance, it is a tool that can be used by artists to generate inspiration that can spur further creative endeavors. The inspiration produced by these tools will be able to create unique prompts that each individual artist can alter in their own way. Additionally, AI art might have impacts but it is not becoming an overwhelming threat to artists as only approximately 27% of Americans have said that they have seen art created by AI, thus AI has not yet surpassed human art.
All in all, there are a variety of negative and positive effects that come as a result of the rise of art created by artificial intelligence. It is impossible to know how AI will continue to affect art in the future, but for now, there is a great deal of uncertainty and trepidation felt by the art community.
