On September 17, NAHS junior and senior class members and seventh graders from VMS had the privilege of attending the 9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit sponsored by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. This exhibit, a poignant tribute to the devastating attacks on September 11, 2001, and a solemn honor to those who lost their lives is also a powerful educational tool. It has educated thousands about this tragic day, whose history and consequences continue to reverberate through today’s society.
Students were given a brief tour of the exhibit, as they were educated on the memorabilia the foundation has preserved from the attacks. Most remnants, including photographs, clothing, and other important artifacts, were showcased in displays, allowing individuals to view the pieces personally. NAHS student Gisela Avila noted, “The trip educated me about the significance of the people who saved others during 9/11. It inspired me, and I enjoyed my time on the trip, especially seeing the mesmerizing parts of the fire trucks and buildings.”
Another intriguing exhibit was the pillars displaying the tragedies’ timestamps and locations. Furthermore, photographs of the first responders who sacrificed their lives at the World Trade Center on 9/11 were displayed on a wall and left a lasting impression on students. The immense amount of photographs accentuate the heroic courage these individuals displayed in such a dire time and the severity of the attacks.
This extraordinary exhibit is a remarkable ode to the heroes who risked their lives on September 11—their contributions do not go unnoticed. While educating the students about the attacks, the exhibit also provides a unique experience that inspires them and enables them to recognize the magnitude and effects of the events.
Another NAHS student, Jadyn Troncone, commented, “I was very thankful to be able to go on the 9/11 field trip. It was a great way to learn about this day with the tour truck. We learned a lot about what happened in such a short amount of time. It proved to all the people there a special reminder to be thankful for our loved ones who are with us every day.” Overall, this field trip was a thoughtful, memorable experience for those who attended, bringing positivity to the remainder of their day.
