For the past few decades, media has been a huge part of every individual’s lives. Media definitely impacts the life of pre-teens and adolescents. As technology has advanced, more and more adolescents have been consumed with the internet and different television channels and radio stations. According to CBS Life and Health Library website, in a recent study 98% of people have at least one television, 70% of people have cable, and 51% of households with children have a computer. Television and internet can have a negative effect on the lives of young adults.
World media has been playing a major role in today’s society, and children are getting involved with it too. It is very unsafe for children to digest as much information from television and internet because both media outlets can set negative standards. Body image and violence are just two of the most drastic things that children look at and hear about every day. According to the Teen Health and Media website, “In a study on fifth graders, 10 year old girls and boys told researchers they were dissatisfied with their own bodies after watching a music video by Britney Spears or a clip from the TV show Friends.” All parents of pre-teens and adolescents must be cautious and cognizant of what their children are watching on television, internet and other media.
