Today, you can find many surveillance cameras almost everywhere you go. They observe people and what they do throughout their day. Hours of video footage can help law enforcement catch more criminals and make the community safer. A recent example is the Boston Marathon bombings. The surveillance cameras helped pinpoint the people who they suspected to be responsible for it. On the other hand, putting video surveillance is costly and may record too much information; most of it is the daily activities of innocent people.
In my opinion, video surveillance is helpful and necessary to have in today’s society. It has helped public buildings, such as schools, stay safer. According to The Record, North Bergen Mayor, Nicholas Saccos, said, “Cameras are a public safety tool.” According to a survey in North Bergen, 95% of people feel safer with more surveillance. This will lower the crime rates. It will also lower the amount of time it takes to catch a criminal after a crime has been committed. It is something that is needed in today’s society in order to make people feel secure and reduce the crimes in a community.
