How to get involved in the election, even if you’re under 18
As election season is quickly approaching, teens are questioning, “If I can’t vote, why should I care?” Although we can’t vote, we are living through an exciting, historic event that will affect our future. According to BBC, “Donald Trump celebrated his 70th birthday on June 14. If elected in November, he would be the oldest president in history.” Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, would be the first female president. This is an important reminder that it is vital to get involved in this election, even if you are under18 years old. One has the power to shape the election, without having the power to vote.
By getting involved in the election, you can assure that your voice is heard. For starters, you can get involved by supporting a campaign that corresponds with your beliefs and values. You can even scavenger around your room for loose change and donate it to a candidate of your choosing. Remember, every penny counts!
On top of that, you can write letters to candidates about issues that you feel strongly about. These same topics can be brought onto social media and spark a conversation. The more people hear about pressing issues, the more curious they become. As Walt Disney once said, “We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” No matter how you choose to involve yourself in the election this year, remember that it’s the small things that can move mountains.
