Avengers: Infinity War Review
Before you read this review, it would be good to note that this will not be spoiler free! If you haven’t seen Infinity War yet, I recommend that you do, it’s a great film. If you don’t mind the spoilers or if you have already seen the movie, enjoy the article.
We all knew that characters were going to die in this film, but the death toll of Infinity War was off the charts at 15 well-known characters. The Russo brothers who directed the film really weren’t playing games, killing off beloved fan favorites like Loki, Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Vision.
Overall, the movie was very heavy handed on the dark themes. Marvel movies usually start off with some lighter/fluffy fun, but Infinity War literally opened up with dirge music, the remainder of the Asgardian fleet in flames, and Loki dying! While still keeping some of the good old Marvel charm with jokes and humorous elements, the movie was fast paced. With the frequent character deaths and intense scenes, it is understandable as to why there weren’t as many jokes in this movie.
Also, can we talk about Spider-Man in particular? Many of the deaths in the movie were quick as the characters turned to dust and disappeared at the end, but not Spider-Man’s. Peter Parker had a particularly heart-shattering death as he fell into the arms of Tony Stark (Peter’s obvious father figure), among his last words being, “I don’t want to go, I don’t want to go…” Ouch! Really, Russo brothers?!
To shed some light on the situation, it has been going around lately that the deaths may not be permanent. Thanos turned half the population of the world to dust, sure, but that action could logically be reversed if someone else were to beat Thanos and use the Infinity Stones to reverse the decision. Not only this, but there is a scene in the movie where Dr. Strange saw the one possible future where the Avengers were able to beat Thanos. That said, it is very likely that he pulled some strings to increase their odds of winning. There are a variety of theories going around, but it looks like we’ll have to wait and see. Thank you for reading, and let’s all hope Avengers 4 is able to, literally, re-assemble the Avengers.
