The Rise of Vegan Meat Alternatives
Over the past few years, there has been a growing market for vegan and vegetarian products more and more, as seen through the rapid adoption of many different alternatives to meats made from animal products. A Gallup poll conducted in 2018 deduced that 8% of Americans are vegetarians and 3% are vegans. The rise in vegan and vegetarian products points toward there being more demand in the market, as many choose to eat plant-based products in order to either aid with health, lifestyle choices, or to take a stand against animal cruelty. As such, it is no wonder that many fast-food joints have been quick to pick up on the trend.
Recently, countless fast-food chains have been phasing in new vegan and vegetarian products in order to increase customers’ volume. In early August of this year, Burger King’s collaboration with Impossible Foods produced the Impossible Whopper, which was then sold nationwide. Many other companies such as Bey, KFC , Carl’s Jr.’s Beyond Burger, and McDonald’s P.L.T. have conducted marketing test runs as well. So far, nearly all of the new menu items have skyrocketed in popularity, allowing people to experience a nutritional lifestyle change. There is no doubt that with the adoption of vegan options by so many retailers, the vegan and vegetarian market will only continue to grow in the industry.
