The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes is the perfect read for anyone looking for riddles, mystery, and friendship in books. It was the last book read for the NAHS book club and the club will be reading the sequel, The Hawthorne Legacy, for their February meeting. The Inheritance Games is the first novel in a trilogy, with an ongoing spin-off series extending the stories of these characters. The next book in the series has a release date in July so fans are already counting down the days.
The novel follows Avery as she inherits billions of dollars from a man who recently passed. The only issue is…she has no idea who he is or why he left her his fortune. Also, there is one requirement of her that she must fulfill before getting the money; she must live in his house for one year after his death. This is the same house that his family resides in, the same family who expected to get a cut of the money. Avery quickly realizes that she is the man’s last riddle for his grandsons and she must play along if she wants to survive.
This book is compelling and immediately captures the interest of the reader. Barnes uses her literary abilities to make her characters engaging and form a quick-paced novel that is impossible to put down. This series has become popular over the past few years and will probably continue to grow as time goes on and more books are released.
