Some people might ask, what is color guard? Well, sometimes they like to be referred to as “what makes the band look pretty” but on more serious terms, they are known as the girls who dance and twirl the flags around in the marching band.
The N. A. H. S. color guard has been around for several years. The 2011 captains are: Sara Olson and Jennifer Ciampitti. This year N. A. H. S. has a total of 12 girls in the color guard. There are four senior color guard members: Sara Olson, Camila Hernandez, Lucille Hernandez and Crystal Nieves. The color guard practices every day of the week except on Thursdays. Sometimes color guard
members work in conjunction with the band and some other times they practice on their own. In either case, the girls try to have as much fun as possible.
The color guard of North Arlington High school is not simply an activity where members practice and make the band look good; it also gives all of its members an opportunity to make friends and even feel like a family. The girls like to refer to themselves as “the color guard family.” When asked what they do in color guard, they answered with a simple “Twirl flags with pride.”
Though the NAHS color guard may sound like all fun and games, it’s not. As mentioned, they have practice every day trying to keep their counts tight and their routine perfect. The color guard is full of hard-working members who really enjoy what they’re doing.
