Coach Sharon O’Brien-Romer is entering her tenth year coaching the Lady Vikings Soccer Team. The 2012 season will be headed by captains Amanda Awad, Mackenzie Cutruzzula, and Melissa Gilmour. Although the start has been shaky, 1-2-1 record, the team looks to improve that record and continue to score more goals. To achieve these goals, the Lady Vikings look to improve their passing combinations and field chemistry.
Coach O’Brien-Romer noted, “The key players are Cristina Nardini, Mackenzie Cutruzzula, Sarah Palma, and Taylor Barth.” These players will be crucial to making sure the team stays focused on the winning game plan. Another player to look out for is newcomer freshman, Jessica Gilmour. She will be a major contributor to the team for the next four years. The rest of the team is made up of hardworking, enthusiastic, spirited girls who will be essential to Viking success.
A big change for the team has been the new league realignment. Amongst the many changes, the team has lost the experience of playing perennial rivals Lyndhurst and Queen of Peace. However, as an advantage, the team does not have to face any new opponents. “I think the secret weapon is that people underestimate us,” stated coach O’Brien-Romer. The Lady Vikings face St. Mary’s and rematches of foes Hasbrouck Heights and Saddle Brook in important upcoming games. The team looks to stay healthy for this season by staying in shape, staying hydrated, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The Lady Vikings are in for a very successful season!
