The stage is set for the biggest sports day of the year, which is on Sunday, February 3rd. The Super Bowl is between AFC Champions- the Baltimore Ravens, and NFC Champions- the San Francisco 49ers. The Ravens ousted the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game, 28-13, in Foxboro, Massachusetts. This was a big win for the Ravens, and it was a rematch of last year’s AFC Championship game, in which New England won. The 49ers defeated the number 1 seed in the NFC, the Atlanta Falcons, 28-24, in Atlanta, Georgia. This was the first time since 1994, that the 49ers won the NFC Championship.
Furthermore, the Ravens have been riding on what seems to be Linebacker Ray Lewis’ last NFL season. This has given the team even a greater inspiration to win the Super Bowl because Lewis is arguably the best Middle Linebacker in NFL history. The San Francisco 49ers have been led by young phenom, Colin Kaepernick, who has been having a great postseason. Kaepernick’s quickness and agility could pose a big threat against the Ravens defense, even if they have one of the best.
This is bound to be an exciting game, and it is being played in New Orleans, Louisiana, at the Superdome. One more thing newsworthy is that both head coaches are brothers. John Harbaugh is the coach of the Baltimore Ravens and his brother, Jim, is the coach of the San Francisco 49ers. This is going to be a family feud and a highly competitive game for the brothers. Many people have been calling this upcoming Super Bowl the “Harbowl”, which is quite a clever name since both of the Harbaugh brothers are playing in it. Nonetheless, tune in to the Super Bowl on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. to catch the big game.
