GO! The Vikings track teams are up and running again this spring season. Both teams are coming off very successful seasons and are looking to recreate that chemistry. The Lady Vikings lost important members of the fielding squad, but have ready underclassmen raring to go. Kassandra Rodriguez and Mary Smykowski, senior throwers, are prepared for the tough competition of the league realignment. Mary commented, “We’ll be seeing new teams as well as old ones, so we have a lot to look forward to.” Other field competitors include Eileen Gonzalez and Cristina Valente.
On the track, the team is reloaded with plenty of returning runners. This experience will be key to success this season. Long distance runners include Nicolette Zamora and Tati Bulugas. Kali Orovio, Bryanna Tomasko, Melissa LaBarbera and Mackenzie Cutruzzula will be flying past the competition in the sprints. Cristina Nardini will continue her success in the hurdle events. The team is on the smaller end, but as always is mighty. The girls are willing to take on multiple events to contribute to the team. Lack of size won’t be stopping this team this spring!
On the boys’ side of the track, immense individual success will motivate team success this year. Although losing a large number of senior contributors, the team is not lacking in numbers. Coach Zukatus said, “I’m looking forward to the large number of students that we have had join the program and seeing their talent.” This size will give the team a new dynamic and will help pick up important second and third places.
The team is young, but has enough experienced members to keep the team competitive. Prominent returning members include Danny Cordeiro, Michael Cammett, Colin Clifford, and Ryan Duffy. These members will be crucial to supporting younger members. The team has become very competitive in recent years and looks to continue that trend. Both teams are in for very successful seasons individually and as a team. Best of luck to both teams!
