The boys’ basketball team finished off the season with a 20-8 record, which happens to be better than most other local teams. They had a huge spark at the end of the season with a big win of 69 – 56 over St. Mary’s on senior night, which sent them on their way to a home playoff game against Glen Ridge. The Vikings have not had a home playoff game in over 30 years, proving that this year’s team was one to remember. They went on to beat Glen Ridge 61 – 48, a testament to the skill of the team. The win moved them on to the second round of playoffs against the New Providence Pioneers, who rarely find themselves locked out of the playoffs. Unfortunately, The Vikings lost in double overtime to the Pioneers, with a score of 57 – 63.
“As one of the players on the team, that had to have been one of the worst feelings ever after the game, but we played our hardest and left it all one the court” – Mike Brazzel.
The Vikings shined this season with seniors Nick Martin and Thai Scott getting 1st team all-league, sophomore Edgar Carranza and junior Jose Checo getting 2nd team all-league, along with honorable mention Kevin Cerqueira. This season may not have ended the way each of them wanted, but NAHS proved to the community and the area that they are ready for another round next year.
