Now that the dust has settled on this domestic violence dispute with Ray Rice, it’s time to focus on his football career rather than his personal life. For some, this may come as a shock and for others it won’t, but Rice has been reinstated by the NFL. This means Ray Rice is now available if anyone wants to give him an NFL contract, but that probably won’t happen anytime soon. Since the regular season is just about over, nobody is going to sign him. The next time Rice will get anywhere near a contract will be this upcoming April when the playoffs are long gone and teams start preparing for the NFL Draft.
In the meanwhile, he’ll just have to watch the rest of this season from his couch and hope that he can make a roster spot on a team this off-season. Certain teams have expressed interest in him, but nobody is committed because of his legal issues and the drama that could ensue from that. More importantly, teams aren’t interested because of the lack of production he’s had in the games he played last season. In 2013, Ray Rice saw his average rush yards drop to 3.1 yards per carry. That was a huge decrease from 2011, when his average was 4.7 and 2012, when it was 4.4. He’s showing a decrease every year which also gives teams some uncertainties about him. Ray Rice may never become the dominant running back he once was three years ago. For all we know, he may never set foot on an NFL field ever again.
