Over the years, the New York Yankees have had problems with injuries due to age. This past season, longtime Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter retired after playing nearly 20 seasons with the team. Now, with spring training around the corner, the “Bronx Bombers” need to fill their shortstop position as well as add some youth to this relatively old team. Since Jeter left in October, they have been desperately searching for some new talent. Luckily, the Yankees have added shortstop Didi Gregorius as well as infielders like Garrett Jones and Jose Pirela. The Yankees have also added pitchers like David Carpenter, Nathan Eovaldi, Gonzalez Germen, Andrew Miller, Bryan Mitchell, Esmil Rodgers, Chasen Shreve, and Justin Wilson.
These are only some of the new players on the team. They’ve also dug into their “farm teams” (A.K.A development teams) and pulled out rookie outfielders like Tyler Austin and Mason Williams. The “Yanks” even went for a third outfielder named Eury Perez to provide some depth to their strong core of outfielders. Hopefully, some of these fresh faces can provide a spark and get the Yankees into the playoffs, something they couldn’t do last season. Aside from these newcomers, the Yankees will also want to see some production from returning players like Mark Teixeira, Brett Gardner, and Alex Rodriguez and others. This season looks to be promising and let’s hope the Yankees don’t disappoint.
