On January 4, 2015, the New England Patriots paraded through the snowy Boston streets to show off their shiny Lombardi Trophy. Schools and work were cancelled for many people and they all rushed to get a glimpse of their hometown heroes. The talk of the parade was about the Patriots’ rookie safety Malcolm Butler.
With 25 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Pete Carroll, head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, called a slant play at the one-yard-line. Butler stepped in front of Russell Wilson’s pass and intercepted it, which sealed the win for the Patriots. Quarterback Tom Brady received the MVP award. To cap it off, Brady’s team mates, Malcolm Butler and Julian Edelman, went to Disney World to celebrate their Super Bowl win.
That interception by Butler was, without a doubt, the play that won the Super Bowl for the Patriots. If it weren’t for him, the tone in Boston wouldn’t have been so cheerful; instead, it would be extremely sullen. The parade really made the crowd happy. The team rode in duck boats through Boston, laughing, taking pictures, and celebrating their fourth Super Bowl victory.
