With the NBA trade deadline long gone, it’s time to see who cashed in and who came up empty-handed. The Brooklyn Nets traded power forward/center Kevin Garnett to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for power forward Thaddeus Young. Both sides did pretty well in this deal acquiring important players who can score as well as provide some defensive support.
Point guard Goran Dragic was traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Miami Heat – a three team deal that gave the Heat a dynamic shooter who can really score points when it matters the most. The Suns received Brandon Knight from Milwaukee, which should help replace the loss of Dragic.
Two teams, the Portland Trail Blazers and the Dallas Mavericks, both had impressive deadline deals. Portland received shooting guard/small forward Aaron Afflalo who can give them some value in the scoring department, as well as, provide some bench points. The Mavericks gained power forward/center Amar’e Stoudemire who will surely block shots, get rebounds, and get second chance points.
With that being stated, these deals could make or break certain teams looking for a playoff push. Some teams brightened their playoff hopes while others are left to wonder if they’ll even get in. Also, when it was all said and done, 37 players were traded in 11 deals. Most of those deals were last second buzzer-beaters that just got finalized when the deadline ended. Ultimately, only time will tell how well they’ll do based on trades.
