On October 17, 2024, the North Arlington High School girl’s soccer team faced Midland Park at Rip Collins Field for their first Bergen County Invitational tournament round and defeated them 5 to 1. The girls started their season off strong going 6-0 and are now 10-2-2 after this win. North Arlington students and parents have been great in coming out and supporting the girls.
Notably, tonight the girls decided to come out and support Breast Cancer Awareness month by wearing pink socks and spraying their hair pink.
The girls started the game off hot with multiple chances at the net and having majority possession of the ball. Then came the 16th minute when senior Brielle Serodio played a ball into freshman Alexa Rincon right outside the box where she tried a shot and slotted it into the top bins. The girls kept this intensity up and 7 minutes later freshman Alexa Rincon took on some defenders and made a pass to freshman Mia Bianco where she cut back and scored making the score 2:0. Midland Park was having trouble finding the right chances until 3 minutes later when they played a through ball to their left forward who went on to finish it into the bottom corner; the half ended at 2:1 to North Arlington.
At halftime, intensity was high as it was still a close game. The half started and Midland Park was eager to score, but freshman goalie Zoe Dinnerstein had no problem saving any ball that came her way. Within the first couple of minutes of the second half, freshmen Devyn Sullivan and Alyssa Sousa had a good combination play where Alyssa further connected a pass into freshman Alexa Rincon and she finished it with no problem putting North Arlington up 3 to 1.
At this point North Arlington is crushing Midland Park, controlling the whole game and creating many chances. Both teams were fighting for the ball, wanting to score. Then came the 28th minute where freshman Alyssa Sousa played a nice ball into freshman Alexa Rincon which she finished. However, not even a minute later Lyndsay Gilbert played a ball into Alexa Rincon for her to score her fourth goal of the night to finish the game 5 to 1.
