The boys and girls soccer teams celebrated senior night this past week, both with a game versus Rutherford. The stands were filled with posters, balloons, and other decorations to show the appreciation the Vikings have for our players.
The girl’s game took place on October 22nd where they went against the Bulldogs with a record of 12-3. The first half ended in a simple 0-0 draw, with both teams fighting for a goal.
However, toward the end of the second half, Rutherford was given a controversial penalty and scored. This put them ahead with only a few minutes left to go. The Vikings continued looking for a goal but were unlucky. The game ended with the final score of 0-1 to the Bulldogs, but the girls showed ambition and couldn’t make the fans more proud.
The boy’s game against the Bulldogs (12-4-1) took place the following day, October 23rd. The game started strong when Patrick (Packy) Sullivan sent a ball to Felix Medina who scored, ending the first half at 1-0 to the Vikings. The second half had seemed to be close, but within the last 5 minutes of the game Rutherford stole a goal.
This sent the game into overtime– the first team to score would win. It was neck-in-neck, but after being given a corner kick, the Bulldogs slid a goal in. This ended the game 1-2 to Rutherford, but looking past the scoreboard , the boys gave it their all.
Although both games didn’t come out as successful as we hoped, the pride shown in these matches was visible to all those who came to support them. We thank the seniors for their dedication and success throughout their years playing for North Arlington.
