For seniors, it is time to start thinking about what colleges they may like to attend after high school graduation. The easy part is finding a college that will fit one’s needs. However, going through the process of sending out applications can be difficult. By October of senior year, seniors should have asked at least three teachers for a letter of recommendation. The primary focus of all students should be adhering to application deadlines, especially because in most cases a university will not accept any late applications.
Before sending out transcripts, seniors should review all of the requirements from each college. Most institutions ask for students’ grades from the past three years of high school and also a mid-year report of senior year. Seniors must also take the SATs or ACTs because the majority of colleges require the scores as a prerequisite for acceptance.
Another important component of the application process is the completion and submission of an essay. Essays should be thoroughly revised and edited prior to submittal. Students should ask as many people as possible to read their essays, including an English teacher.
Once all of the application requirements are fulfilled, seniors must inform their guidance counselors so that transcripts may be sent to all of the higher learning institutions listed as preferred choices. Students must also be reminded that an application fee may be a necessary element of the application process. Finally, after every application is completed and mailed, seniors have to be vigilant for acceptance letters that may arrive from the office of admissions.
Good luck to all N.A.H.S. seniors!
