The National Honor Society has begun their second collection this year for “Operation Christmas Child.” This organization was created to send not only Christmas toys but more important supplies to third world countries. The national collection week is November 12-19, and the N. A. H. S. Honor Society is in full swing filling shoe boxes with supplies for the children. Mrs. Maresca is very proud of the society’s participation in the toy drive stating, “It is my sincere hope that through participation in ‘Operation Christmas Child’ the members of the National Honor Society will provide much needed school supplies, toys, and other gifts for children in disadvantaged countries throughout the world so that they may be able to experience the joy of Christmas. Caring and sharing is the perfect way to celebrate the holiday season.”
For just $7, the students are able to choose to send a gift to a girl or boy in the age ranges: 2-4 years, 5-9 years, and 10-14 years. Honor Society President, Rebecca Filgueiras has found the organization, “To be a fulfilling cause that has been fun to not only be involved with, but even just to shop for generous presents for the children we are helping.” The National Honor Society would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Tella’s Dentistry for donating toothbrushes that were added to every box. The students are looking forward to sending out their shoe boxes that are filled with more than just toys and games – each box is also filled with the most important gift of all- hope!
