On the night of Monday, November 19, the student council held their annual “Volleyball Tournament”. This year some of the proceeds went to a family in need as a result of Hurricane Sandy. Ms. Giampaolo, the advisor of the student council, had this to say regarding the donation, “Every little bit helps these people who were left with nothing.” As always, the annual event was extremely enjoyable to both spectate and participate in. Some teachers who played along with their students included Mr. Capriola, Mr. Zukatus, Mr. Dembowski, and Mr. Coughlin.
After many spikes, volleys, and serves, the final two teams to face off in the tournament were “The Savages” and “Ace”. It certainly turned into a battle of athletic teams with “The Savages” being various members of the football team and “Ace” involving many volleyball players. In the end though, “The Savages” took the win.
On a different note, the pie eating contest was eagerly anticipated by students and did not fail to deliver. The final challenge of eating 3 pudding pies in the shortest amount of time was between Rich Miller and Dominic Reo. Ultimately, Rich Miller defended his title from last year and walked away with glory.
Student Council officer Amanda Awad had this to say about the event overall, “Though the planning sometimes gets stressful, the Volleyball tournament is an event that is always rewarding and fun to help run.” The volleyball tournament was certainly a spectacle worth seeing.
