After much nervous anticipation from staff members and students alike, the HSPA testing for the 2012/2013 school year is finally over! For students who were not taking the HSPA however, many interesting and inventive activities were organized. For example, though the majority of students were able to come in for a delayed opening, select seniors had to come in at regular time for a practice AP test. In addition, other seniors came in at 10 for various presentations that covered topics including 9/11, plagiarism, and Relay for Life. Perhaps the most interesting presentation of all was how the freshman class spent their time as a result of the HSPA: playing minute to win it games!
Hosted by the freshmen members of the Student Council, the event was led by Mr. Dembowski and Ms. Giampaolo. Ms. Giampaolo went on to state, “Minute to Win It is always fun and a really unifying experience for the class.” During one of said challenges, the freshmen were faced with getting an Oreo placed on the middle of their forehead and somehow manage to eat the Oreo without the use of one’s hands. Another challenge involved two students competing to see who could balance two balloons in the air for the longest amount of time. The last challenge called for two teams to be made and lined facing one another. The team members would then each be given a piece of gum and the team to first have every member blow a bubble won. Freshman Shauna Awad stated, “The games were a fun way to kill time, they were all really funny.” In summation, the freshman Minute to Win It was certainly a major success.
