On Thursday, May 23rd, 2013 numerous seniors were given awards, including scholarships that can go towards their schooling after graduating North Arlington High School this June. In order to be applicable for an award, seniors were required to fill out a form with their GPA, class rank, extra-curricular activities in and outside of school, and last but not least an essay. The completed forms were then given to people who reviewed them thoroughly and kindly donated money to the seniors of choice.
Many of the donations were in memory of people who have passed away or from different organizations. Some of these scholarships included the Jessica Ryan scholarship, the George Miller Art Show, Elks, and many more! Melissa Gilmour stated, “It’s nice to see all these people give us money in order to further our education.”
Over $50,000 in scholarships were processed through our school’s Scholarship Committee. In addition, seniors were offered scholarships from colleges and universities that totaled over 3.7 million dollars.
Academic excellence plaques were also awarded and our valedictorian, Amanda Awad as well as our class salutatorian, Diana Correia were both officially announced. Amanda Awad stated, “I am more than thrilled to be valedictorian because I know my hard work and dedication throughout my years at NAHS have finally paid off, and I cannot believe all my accomplishments will finally be recognized!” Overall, the scholarship night was a success for all the seniors who were given awards and scholarships!
