All grades had the privilege of meeting our new principal on Friday, January 23, 2015. He first spoke about his life – going to different high schools, being involved in several activities, and making tough decisions. An important choice he made was sacrificing certain programs for the sake of his future. It was revealed that he had several opportunities in the baseball area which had to be turned down since his priorities on education were higher.
After learning about him, it was time for a question and answer segment. Students at this time were able to alert him of their concerns or learn anything he didn’t cover about himself. We learned that he has siblings and that his nationalities are Polish, Ukrainian, and Czechoslovakian. Furthermore, we learned that he has no major plans to change much yet, since he is still learning about the school’s procedures. He has smaller projects being tended to such as fixing the girls’ locker room door and the broken stall in the first floor girls’ bathroom. Students also expressed the need to have the boys’ bathroom on the third floor reopened and the need to have mirrors in there.
In retrospect, Dr. Yurchak is proud of the school’s current standing overall. He plans to encourage our positive spirit and is happy to be our principal. It’s safe to say we are all pleased to have him here and are looking forward to any future changes that may come our way.
