A new year has commenced and that means it time to appreciate the stunning cinematography of the past year. As a matter of fact, The Academy Award nominations were announced recently and it had Hollywood buzzing about the biggest motion pictures of the year. While the Golden Globes were ultimately a delineation of what was to come for the nominations; the most buzzed about features are up for awards. The nominees for best motion picture are: The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, The Revenant, Room, and Spotlight. Since I’ve seen four out of the eight nominations, I can firmly say my favorite film was Room. Jammed packed with utterly emotional performances, Room was an uplifting film that stuck with me long after I exited the theater.

As for Best Actor and Actress in a motion picture, I predict that this is finally going to be the year where Leonardo DiCaprio wins the Best Actor category for his work in The Revenant. For Best Actress, I have my fingers crossed that Brie Larson’s gut-wrenching performance in Room gets her the win. At the Golden Globes, Larson and DiCaprio both won for their performances in The Revenant and Room. Hopefully, history will repeat itself and they will win Academy Awards.
