Last month, the annual NAHS showcase occurred. Incoming freshmen were introduced to the variety of clubs and sports NAHS offers! Clubs were in the cafeteria, while sports were in the gymnasium. The showcase highlighted the diverse array of extracurricular activities that students can participate in once they begin high school. Members of clubs and sports helped sponsor their extracurricular activities by explaining what the activities offer and how they spur community involvement. With the presence of current high schoolers, incoming students were familiarized with the students they may see in just a few months.
Some notable clubs highlighted were the Viking Saga, the SADD/Interact Club, and the Environmental Club. This year, the Viking Saga was displayed on the Promethean board, allowing the entire room to see the newspaper’s homepage. The SADD/Interact Club displayed their recent project of kindness rocks. Most attendees participated in decorating a kindness rock, which was a fun and engaging activity. The Environmental Club showcased a mannequin with an excellent, eye-catching dress designed with reusable materials, including soda tabs and bottle caps. Moreover, the band greeted attendees and played their instruments outside, at the school entrance. All the clubs at the showcase were very creative and attracted many incoming freshmen seeking to join an extracurricular.
The sports in the gymnasium included Soccer, Cheer, Basketball, etc. Large, engaging poster boards were set up on tables, which caught the attention of many. Tables were decorated with Viking Apparel, including hats, helmets, and sports equipment. Many athletes, including the cheerleaders, wore their bows to show off their school spirit! Not only were sports sponsored, but so was the Early College Program. The program utilized a Promethean board to display this excellent opportunity that incoming freshmen may experience later in their high school careers. Students were also provided with refreshments.
In summary, the 2024 NAHS showcase went very well. Numerous incoming students expressed interest in the school’s activities. As the conclusion of this school year approaches, students are encouraged to begin acknowledging future opportunities and ways to become involved in their community.
